• Description: Rac cis-9,10-epoxystearic acid is a fatty acid that is used as a surfactant. It has been shown to have a kinetic effect on Saccharomyces cerevisiae and has been found to increase the activity of enzymes such as phospholipase A2, lipase, and esterase. Rac cis-9,10-epoxystearic acid also increases the rate of chemical ionization when exposed to sephadex g-100. This compound has been shown to be effective in vivo against human liver cells and has been found to have an epoxide group on each side of the molecule. The enantiomer of rac cis-9,10-epoxystearic acid is hydrated in water or ethanol and reacts with alcohols in the presence of an oxidizing agent to form epoxides. Rac cis-9,10-epoxystearic acid can catalyze reactions involving epoxides.
