Description:Ethyl 2-formyl 3-oxopropanoate is a structural analog of the pyrazole ring. It has been shown to be stable in vitro. In addition, ethyl 2-formyl 3-oxopropanoate is structurally related to the carbonyl ligands of the intraocular pressure-lowering drug acetazolamide. The compound has been found to have alkaline hydrolysis yields of about 60%. The compound also contains a pyrazole ring and is biosynthesized from fatty acids in a similar manner as acetazolamide.
