3-Ethylpyridine is a type of compound that has been found in bacteria. It has been shown to be a mitochondrial membrane potential inhibitor and matrix molecules inducer. 3-Ethylpyridine also inhibits the mitochondrial pathway of 2-ethylpyridine, which is a major metabolite of nicotine in mammals. This inhibition leads to lung cancer. 3-Ethylpyridine can be used as an alternative to chemotherapeutic agents for lung cancer treatment.
