Ethion is a fatty acid that is used as an optical sensor. It is used in analytical methods for the detection of water vapor, toxicological studies, and genotoxic effects. Ethion has been shown to have a low-level genotoxic effect on some cell lines. Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) knockout mice were used as a model system to study the effects of ethion on inflammatory responses in vivo. Ethion has also been found to be chemically stable and non-genotoxic when subjected to wastewater treatment processes.
