Epigoitrin is a natural flavonoid that has been shown to have synergistic effects with uridine in the treatment of syncytial virus infection. Epigoitrin also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which result from its ability to inhibit the activity of various enzymes such as cyclooxygenase, lipoxygenase, and 5-lipoxygenase. Epigoitrin also has antiviral properties against HIV by inhibiting viral reverse transcriptase and proteases. This compound inhibits the expression of matrix metalloproteinases, which are proteins that may play a role in the progression of inflammatory diseases such as cardiovascular disease, arthritis, and cancer. The enzyme activities of epigoitrin are inhibited by chlorogenic acids found in coffee beans.
