Ethyl 5,6-dichloronicotinate is a labile and bioisosteric analog of the drug clopidogrel. It has been shown to have antiplatelet activity in animal models. The metabolically labile nature of ethyl 5,6-dichloronicotinate makes it a good candidate for oral administration. The functional group on this molecule is positioned in such a way that it can form hydrogen bonds with the active site on P2Y12 receptors, which are responsible for platelet aggregation. This drug also has five-membered ring structure and acceptor groups, which may confer its antiplatelet activity.
