- ethyl 2H-tetrazole-5-carboxylate
Ethyl tetrazole-5-carboxylate (ETC) is a bioisostere of the tetrazole that has potent inhibitory activity. It is synthesized by reacting an amide with diazirine, which produces an imine, which then reacts with argon to produce an ETC. The ETC can also be made from ethyl formate and a carbonyl group. In order for this reaction to occur, the temperature must be below 0°C or above 100°C. This compound has been shown to have anti-HIV activity in vitro and in vivo and has potential as a drug for the treatment of hepatitis C virus infections.
