• Description: Ethyl 5-Nitroindole-2-Carboxylate is a precursor to the anti-HIV drug Delavirdine. It is synthesized by condensation of ethyl pyruvate and urea derivative in the presence of thionyl chloride. This compound can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds such as ethyl ester and ethyl pyruvate. The chemical reaction is carried out at room temperature using a chlorinated solvent such as methylene chloride or chloroform. Ethyl 5-nitroindole-2-carboxylate can also be used for the synthesis of other drugs, including antitumor agents.
