Name:3'-Epilutein
Synonyms:
- (3R,3'S,6'R)-b,e-Carotene-3,3'-diol
Brand:Biosynth
Description:Epilutein is a carotenoid that belongs to the group of xanthophylls. It is found in the plants, where it provides the yellow-orange colouring. Epilutein is a member of the carotenoid family and has a similar structure to lycopene. Epilutein can be found in human serum at concentrations of 0.2-0.3 microgram/mL, depending on age and sex. The concentration of epilutein in human serum is also influenced by diet, with an increased concentration seen after consumption of vegetables containing high levels of carotenoids. Epilutein is found in tissues such as liver, heart, kidney, and brain tissue, but not in muscle or adipose tissue. Epilutein has been shown to have antioxidant properties due to its ability to scavenge free radicals and inhibit lipid peroxidation induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS).
