- 5,6-Dihydro-1,3-dithiolo[4,5-b][1,4]dithiin-2-one
4,5-Ethylenedithio-1,3-dithiol-2-one is a divalent cross-coupling reagent that reacts with an electrophile to form a new carbon-carbon bond. It has been shown to be effective in the synthesis of polyhalogenated compounds and phosphite derivatives. The compound was synthesized in high yield from commercially available starting materials using a facile two-step process. 4,5-Ethylenedithio-1,3-dithiol-2-one is an electrophilic compound that reacts with nucleophiles by donating its sulfur atom. This reaction can be monitored by cyclic voltammetry or analysed by nature (NMR) spectroscopy. The compound was also found to have good crystal properties and can be used for x-ray diffraction studies.
