This binding process is thermodynamically and kinetically favorable, which leads to a high metabolic rate. 3-Ethoxyphenol has been shown to have strong antiviral properties, particularly against chromobacterium violaceum, and can be used as a specific ligand for metal surfaces. The coumarin derivatives of 3-ethoxyphenol have also been shown to inhibit the growth of propionate and covid-19 pandemic.
