Description:4-Ethylcatechol is a phenolic compound that is found in red wine and other plant-derived products. It is the product of the hydroxylation of catechol by an enzyme called catechol oxidase. 4-Ethylcatechol has been shown to have antioxidant properties, which may be due to its ability to reduce cellular oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species. 4-Ethylcatechol also inhibits bacterial growth and can inhibit the production of dopamine in rat liver cells. The compound has been used as a chemical substance for sample preparation in analytical chemistry.
