Product Information

Name:
Ethyl undecanoate
Synonyms:
  • Ethyl undecylate
  • Hendecanoic acid, ethyl ester
  • NSC 97265
  • Undecanoic acid ethyl ester
Description:

Ethyl undecanoate is a fatty acid that is found in the surface waxes of plants. It can be extracted from these plants by acetate extraction and then purified by solid phase microextraction. Ethyl undecanoate has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against microbial infections, notably those caused by alkanoic acid producing bacteria such as Escherichia coli. The antimicrobial properties of ethyl undecanoate may be due to its ability to act as an absorption enhancer for diethyl succinate, which has also been shown to have antimicrobial properties.
