2-Ethylbenzoic acid is a fatty acid that is found in plants, animals and microorganisms. It dissolves in water to form an amorphous drug with a molecular weight of about 170. 2-Ethylbenzoic acid has been shown to inhibit the activity of several enzymes, such as protein kinases and phospholipases. It also inhibits the activity of liver enzymes involved in the metabolism of drugs and other xenobiotics, such as phenylpropionic acid and malic acid. This drug has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on glucose uptake by cells and may be used as an anti-diabetic agent.
