Description:Ethyl 2,4-dimethylbenzoate is an ester of benzoic acid and an aminobenzoate. It is used as a solvent for resins, lacquers and varnishes. Preparation of this compound can be accomplished by reacting ethyl benzoate with isobutylamine in the presence of a base such as sodium hydroxide or potassium carbonate. The product can be purified by recrystallization from methanol.
