It has been shown to reduce postprandial plasma glucose levels in animals by inhibiting glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells. Exendin (9-39) also binds to receptors on vascular smooth muscle cells, causing vasodilation and increased renal glomerular filtration rate.
