(-)-EGCG-3''-O-ME inhibits the growth of bacterial cells by binding to the proton pump in the bacterial cell membrane and preventing the transport of protons across the membrane, which leads to an accumulation of hydrogen ions inside the bacterial cell. (-)-EGGCg also inhibits alcohol-induced liver injury and is an antioxidant. (-)-EGGCg has been shown to have anti-obesity effects on mice fed a high fat diet, as well as lowering blood pressure in rats. (-)-EGCg can be detected by analytical methods such as gas chromatography or high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
