Fluorodiphen is a herbicide that inhibits the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids in plants, which are important for plant metabolism. The herbicidal activity of fluorodiphen may be due to the inhibition of enzymes involved in the synthesis of aromatic amino acids or to the inhibition of photosynthetic activity. Fluorodiphen is a structural analogue of picolinic acid and has been shown to inhibit glutathione reductase, an enzyme that produces reduced glutathione from oxidized glutathione. This inhibition can lead to an accumulation of oxidized glutathione and ultimately cell death by apoptosis.
