- Methanesulfonic acid, 1,1,1-trifluoro-, magnesium salt (2:1)
2-fluoropropanoic acid is a fluorinated carboxylic acid that has the ability to bind to receptors, such as the benzodiazepine receptor. Binding experiments have shown that 2-fluoropropanoic acid binds to a number of functional groups, including amino acids and nucleotides. It has been shown to be a positron emitter in positron emission tomography (PET) scans. This compound can also be used as a radiotracer for positron emission tomography (PET) studies of tumor vasculature and uptake in cancer. 2-Fluoropropanoic acid is converted by hydrochloric acid into 2-fluoroacetic acid, which is then metabolized to carbon dioxide and water. The reaction products are not toxic or carcinogenic.
