5-Fluoro-2-methyl-1H-indole is a substance that inhibits the growth of bacteria by acting as a competitive inhibitor of polymeric enzymes. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of virulence factors such as proteases, violaceum, and chromobacterium violaceum. The substance has also been found to be effective against S. marcescens and other bacteria that produce 5-methylindole in their extracellular environment. 5-Fluoro-2-methyl-1H-indole is used in assays to measure the potentials of substances that are active against S. marcescens and other bacteria that produce 5-methylindole in their extracellular environment.
