The stereoisomeric nature of 3-furonitrile has been shown by vibrational spectroscopy. 3-Furonitrile is an acidic hydrolysis product of acetonitrile. Activation energy for the reaction between 3-furonitrile and water is found to be ~30 kJ/mol. The functional theory is used to calculate the activation energy for this reaction.
