Product Information
Filociclovir is a prodrug that is converted to the active form, cyclopropavir, by the virus-encoded thymidine kinase. The drug prevents viral replication by inhibiting DNA synthesis and stopping viral DNA chain elongation. Filociclovir has been shown to inhibit the replication of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2).
Filociclovir is an acyclic nucleoside phosphonate with a basic structure. It binds to the 3’-hydroxyl group of RT in HIV-1 reverse transcriptase and inhibits the enzyme's activity. This inhibition causes a decrease in viral DNA synthesis, thereby preventing viral replication.
