• Description: Fenofibric acid is a fibrate drug. It is used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, including combined with statins and other lipid-lowering drugs. Fenofibric acid has been shown to reduce plasma triglycerides and LDL cholesterol levels. It also reduces atherosclerotic plaque formation by suppressing macrophage accumulation in lesions. Fenofibric acid has been shown to inhibit ATP binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) activity, which may contribute to its ability to increase HDL cholesterol levels.
