Flavanone is a flavonoid that is found in citrus fruits and has antioxidant properties. It has been shown to have an effect on the activity of the enzyme polymerase chain reaction, which plays a role in DNA replication and transcription. Flavanone also binds to the response element on 3T3-L1 preadipocytes, inducing a change in gene expression. Flavanone has been shown to be effective against neuronal death caused by infection with HIV or herpes simplex virus type 1. Flavanone might be used as an alternative treatment for infectious diseases such as bowel disease. The molecular docking analysis showed that flavanones bind to the basic structure of dNTPs, which are compounds used in DNA synthesis and repair.
