Fluazuron is a veterinary anthelmintic drug that belongs to the class of pyrazoline derivatives. It has been shown to be effective against cattle, pigs, and sheep. Fluazuron is used for treatment and control of infections caused by endoparasites such as Boophilus microplus and Haemonchus contortus in cattle. The active form of fluazuron is metabolized by detoxification enzymes to produce piperonyl butoxide, which inhibits the growth of endoparasitic worms. The conversion reaction involves an acylation reaction with phosphorus pentachloride.
