Description:Fluocortin butyl ester (FB) is a pharmacological treatment that is used to treat inflammation, allergies, and skin diseases. It belongs to the class of corticosteroids and is an active metabolite of hydrocortisone. FB has been shown to bind to glucocorticoid receptors in the cytoplasm and nucleus of cells. This binding inhibits transcription and translation of proteins involved in inflammatory processes. FB has also been shown to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1β or tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α). Fluocortin butyl ester has been used as a topical anti-inflammatory agent for the treatment of alopecia areata (hair loss) as well as other inflammatory skin diseases.
