3-Formylbenzonitrile is a molecule that has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. It is an aromatic compound that can be synthesized and purified in the laboratory. 3-Formylbenzonitrile inhibits cancer cell proliferation by binding to the nitrogen atoms of DNA and preventing proton transfer, which is necessary for DNA replication. This molecular model has also been shown to bind to cervical cancer cells, with a binding constant of 1.5 x 10 M, as well as skin cancer cells, with a binding constant of 2.3 x 10 M. 3-Formylbenzonitrile has fluorescence properties that are sensitive to ultraviolet light at wavelengths between 240-400 nm. In addition, 3-formylbenzonitrile produces reactive oxygen species (ROS) when irradiated with UVA light and has exhibited kinetic behavior in both biological and chemical reactions.
