Description:Ferrozine sodium salt, also known as ferrozine, is an iron chelator. It is used for the removal of iron from physiological fluids and tissue samples in order to identify the presence of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Ferrozine binds to iron ions and forms ferrous complexes that are excreted through urine or bile. It has been shown that ferrozine inhibits lipid peroxidation in rat liver mitochondria. This may be due to its ability to react with hydrogen peroxide and form a complex with iron-hydrogen peroxide, which prevents the formation of hydroxyl radicals.
