The salt was then subjected to high-resolution nuclear magnetic resonance analysis. This analysis showed that the boronic acid group is present in the molecule in its trans configuration, as opposed to its cis configuration which would be expected from a Fischer projection of the structure. The amino acid ester bonds were also found to be present in their trans configuration.
