Description

N-Formylmorpholine is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 138°C. The viscosity of the liquid is about 2 mm2/s. It is used in the synthesis of organic compounds, such as tetramethyllead and tetraethyllead. N-Formylmorpholine has been shown to react with carbonyl groups in organic compounds, forming a carbonyl group containing an n-formyl group. This reaction can be analyzed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. N-Formylmorpholine has been shown to be stable at temperatures up to 130°C. It can also undergo reactions that form aromatic hydrocarbons or chemical interactions with other chemicals, such as methyl ethyl ketone or acetone.
