Description:

2-Fluoropyridine is an organic compound with the chemical formula CHF. It is a colorless liquid that has a strong odor and burns easily. The compound has been used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical drugs, pesticides, and dyestuff intermediates. 2-Fluoropyridine is synthesized by reacting anhydrous sodium or chlorine with amines or ammonia in the presence of hydrogen gas. The reaction mechanism for this reaction involves nucleophilic attack on the carbon atom adjacent to the fluorine atom followed by displacement of chlorine. Asymmetric synthesis can also be performed by using chiral auxiliaries to generate one enantiomer of 2-fluoropyridine from an equimolar mixture of reactants.
