Description:
2-Fluoro-3-methylpyridine is a heterocycle that is an electrophile and a nucleophile. It is used to generate homodimers, which are molecules with two identical (mirror image) halves. 2-Fluoro-3-methylpyridine has been shown to react with benzonitrile to form 2-(2-fluoropyridin-3-yl)benzonitrile in high yield. The molecule undergoes a reversible reaction, which can be monitored by spectroscopies such as NMR and IR.
