5-Fluoro-8-quinolinol is a synthesized organic compound that has been shown to have potent anti-tumor activities. 5-Fluoro-8-quinolinol can also inhibit the growth of Trichophyton mentagrophytes in an organic solution. This drug binds to the active site of topoisomerase II, preventing the enzyme from breaking and rejoining DNA strands, which leads to DNA double strand breaks and apoptosis. The kinetic and thermodynamic properties of 5-fluoro-8-quinolinol are studied using kinetic experiments and thermodynamic calculations. The structure of this drug has been determined by X-ray crystallography with minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) values obtained from an in vitro assay.
