Description

Flavanthrone is a yellow pigment that is used in the production of printing inks and paints. It is synthesized from sodium carbonate, formaldehyde, and an acid catalyst. The pigment's color comes from its conjugated double bonds. Flavanthrone can be produced by a variety of methods, including the palladium-catalyzed coupling of methyl ethyl ketones or the metal hydroxides method. The pigment has been shown to have high stability due to its strong hydroxyl group, which makes it resistant to degradation by hydrochloric acid and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid.
