2-Fluoro-6-phenoxybenzonitrile is activated by calcium oxide to form a reactive intermediate that participates in the polymerization reaction. It is also used as a building block for the synthesis of other compounds. 2-Fluoro-6-phenoxybenzonitrile can be used as a crosslinker and toughening agent in polymers, and has been shown to have nucleophilic properties. The mechanisms of its activation by calcium oxide are not yet fully understood, but it is known that this process produces reactive intermediates that are capable of forming ester bonds with other molecules.
