2-Fluoro-4-methylbenzaldehyde is a chiral compound that can be synthesized from dimethyl malonate and 2-fluoro-4-methylbenzyl bromide. This reaction proceeds with high yields, which are increased by the use of phenyllithium as a base. The allylic alkylation of 2-fluoro-4-methylbenzaldehyde can also be achieved using palladium catalysis, giving an asymmetric product with high enantioselectivity.
