N-Formyl-Met-Leu-Phe (NFML) is a hematopoietic growth factor that is found in human serum. It has been shown to induce chemotaxis and angiogenesis, as well as activate cytosolic calcium and camp levels, in polymorphonuclear leucocytes (PMN). NFML also induces the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), which may be due to its ability to upregulate the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in PMN. NFML has been shown to act as a chemokine for monoclonal antibody against toll-like receptor 4, which is activated by bacterial lipopolysaccharides.
