Description:
2-Fluoro-5-nitrothiophene is a piperidine that has been shown to be catalytic for the addition of fluoride ion to benzene in the presence of bromine. This reaction was shown to have a low yield and is not as reactive as other fluorinating reagents such as chlorine. The rate of this reaction was found to be sensitive to the isotope effect, which is due to the different mass of fluorine and chlorine. 2-Fluoro-5-nitrothiophene has also been shown to be capable of catalysis with a variety of nucleophiles such as fluoride, chloride, or iodide. It can also act as a bifunctional reagent, reacting with both nucleophile and electrophile at the same time.
