3-Fluoro-4-methoxybenzyl chloride is a potent antiproliferative agent that inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells. It is an inhibitor of tyrosinase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of tyrosinase to dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA). 3-Fluoro-4-methoxybenzyl chloride also suppresses melanogenesis by inhibiting the synthesis of DOPA, resulting in decreased production of melanin. This compound also has antiinflammatory properties that are due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. 3-Fluoro-4-methoxybenzyl chloride has been shown to be effective against some cancers including leukemia and breast cancer.
