10-Fluoro-7-Methylbenz[a]anthracene is a carcinogen that is used in the study of skin tumorigenesis. It can be found in coal tar and petroleum products, such as gasoline. 10-Fluoro-7-Methylbenz[a]anthracene has been shown to induce skin cancer in laboratory animals by activating the nucleus of cells and increasing the number of mutations. It also has an electron donating property, which may contribute to its ability to induce mutations. Mutations are more likely to occur when there is a high level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) or DNA damaging agents present.
