It has been shown to have neuroprotective properties in animal models of stroke and traumatic brain injury. 1-(3-Fluorophenyl)Cyclohexan-1-Amine binds to the glutamate site on the NMDA receptor, which prevents the binding of glutamate and reduces excitotoxicity. It also activates the calcium channel and blocks voltage-dependent sodium channels. 1-(3-Fluorophenyl)Cyclohexan-1-Amine also has affinity for other receptors, including sigma receptors and dopamine receptors, but its affinity for these sites is weaker than its affinity for NMDA receptors. This drug may be useful as a pharmacological probe or blocker of NMDA receptors.
