It can be used as an inhibitor of enzymes such as carboxypeptidase A, chymotrypsin, and trypsin. 3-(Boc-aminomethyl)cyclobutanone is also synthesized by the reaction of cyclobutanone with tetrahydrofuran catalyzed by sodium methoxide. The prochiral nature of this molecule makes it useful for asymmetric synthesis.
