Neticonazole is a nitrogen-containing triazole antifungal agent that inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, an important component of the fungal cell membrane. It has been shown to be effective in vitro against a wide range of fungi and is used for treatment of microbial infections. Neticonazole also blocks the production of inflammatory mediators and relieves allergic symptoms. This drug has pharmacokinetic properties suitable for oral administration, which may be related to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and enter the central nervous system. Neticonazole has been shown to inhibit xenograft tumor growth in rodents and was found to be safe for use in pregnant rats. In humans, neticonazole has been found to reduce bowel disease and mycological activity in patients with mild-to-moderate inflammatory bowel disease.
