Guineensine is a sesquiterpene lactone that has been shown to be effective as an anti-inflammatory agent. This compound was first isolated from the Chinese herb Angelicae Dahuricae, and it has shown significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells in vitro. Guineensine also exhibits antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 and influenza A virus. Guineensine has been shown to have immunomodulatory effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-12 and IFN-γ by antigen-presenting cells, leading to inhibition of cell proliferation and maturation.
