The second order rate constants for the reaction have been determined using wild-type and mutant enzymes expressed in E. coli cells. The values obtained were 0.0025 ± 0.0005 and 0.002 ± 0.001 s−1, respectively, corresponding to an activation energy of 12 ± 4 kJ mol−1 (kcal mol−1).
