Description

Glycochenodeoxycholic acid is a bile acid that belongs to the class of hydrophobic bile acid. It is used in treatment trials for bowel disease, such as primary sclerosing cholangitis and ulcerative colitis. Glycochenodeoxycholic acid has shown potent inducers of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and has been shown to stimulate growth factor-β1 expression in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Glycochenodeoxycholic acid can be detected in maternal blood during pregnancy and may play a role in the development of fetal diseases. Glycochenodeoxycholic acid may inhibit the oxidative injury caused by drugs, such as acetaminophen or amiodarone, and is effective against pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
