Product Information
- 2-Amino-9-[(2,3-dihydroxypropoxy)methyl]-1,9-dihydro-6H-purin-6-oneIsoganciclovir
IsoGanciclovir is a prodrug that is converted to ganciclovir in the body. It has antiviral activity against herpesviruses, such as cytomegalovirus and varicella-zoster virus. Ganciclovir inhibits viral replication by interfering with the synthesis of DNA and RNA. IsoGanciclovir is synthesized from glycerol and moieties with an acetyl group on the sugar moiety. The synthesis proceeds through a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between glycerol and methoxymethyl ethers followed by a Diels-Alder reaction between the resulting diene and maleimide. The synthesis of IsoGanciclovir can be used for preparative purposes, such as for synthesizing other antiviral drugs or nucleosides.
