Product Information
Name:(R)-(-)-Glycidyl benzyl ether
Synonyms:
- (R)-(-)-2-(Benzyloxymethyl)oxirane
Brand:Biosynth
Description:(R)-(-)-Glycidyl benzyl ether is an epoxide that can be synthesized by the reaction of glycidol and benzyl chloride with a chiral catalyst. This compound has been shown to have good oral bioavailability in vivo, and it is also stereoselective. The synthesis of (R)-(-)-Glycidyl benzyl ether involves a four-step process with a yield of around 60%. The first step involves the synthesis of glycidol, which can be accomplished with the help of an organometallic reagent such as n-butyllithium. The second step involves the addition of benzyl chloride to glycidol to produce 1,2-epoxycyclohexane. The third step entails hydrogenation of 1,2-epoxycyclohexane to form (R)-(-)-Glycidyl benzyl ether in high yield. Finally, the fourth step is the removal of hydrogen chloride
