Gossypol acetate is a polymerase chain inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit the activity of pro-apoptotic proteins, such as Bax and Bak. Gossypol acetate is also used for the treatment of bowel diseases, such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, and irritable bowel syndrome. Gossypol acetate has been shown to have anticancer effects in cancer tissues. It also prevents DNA damage by inhibiting nuclear dna polymerases and preventing mitochondrial membrane potential from decreasing. It has been shown to be a natural compound that can be synthesized from cottonseed oil. Gossypol acetate is an analytical method for testing the amount of MCL-1 protein in cells with high levels of apoptosis. The molecular docking analysis was used to determine the binding affinity of gossypol acetate with MCL-1 protein.
