Geniposidic acid is a natural compound. It has been shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in vitro, but the physiological effects of geniposidic acid remain unclear. Geniposidic acid is easily hydrolyzed in water under acidic conditions, which may be due to its sodium salts. Geniposidic acid also inhibits the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) by binding to DNA. This inhibition is reversible and can be removed by increasing concentrations of magnesium ions or decreasing concentrations of potassium ions.
